About the role:
The Group Benefits Financial Reporting & Analysis team is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information to enable effective management decision-making. Reporting to the Manager, GB Reporting & Analysis, the Financial Analyst will prepare complex financial reports; understands accounting process and provides consolidated reports; identifies control gaps and resulting issues; manages or participates in projects. May have achieved a professional designation.
In this role, your primary responsibility will be to accurately maintain comprehensive internal management reports, which support decision-making. You will also assist in the development of the annual budget, quarterly forecast and variance analysis.
What will you do?
Prepare, distribute comprehensive reporting templates to the business lines for the monthly, quarterly and annual planning processes (Key performance Indicators, Quarterly Financial Review and supporting documents).
Analyze information reported by the business units.
Consolidate business unit data, explain variance and draft commentaries.
Prepare reporting packages presented in finance meetings.
Validate Supplementary Financial Information prior to release.
Compile rating agency surveys and Year-end Regulatory Reporting.
Prepare ad-hoc analysis as required.
What do you need to succeed?
3-6 years of experience in a financial analysis role
1-2 years financial analysis/accounting work experience
University degree with major in Accounting or Finance
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to gather, synthesize, organize and report information
Ability to summarize large amounts of data to isolate business drivers and articulate findings in commentaries
Strong MS Office and excellent Excel skills (proficient with Pivot Tables, V/X-look ups)
Must be detail-oriented, well-organized with good communication skills
Strong communication skills and ability to present to senior leadership team
Ability to multi-task and work under pressure during critical reporting periods
As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide
Preferred Skills:
Pursuit of CPA designation an asset
Working knowledge of MS Access
Experience in a diverse system environment, including accounting systems such as SAP and mainframe applications.
Knowledge of financial services industry and/or insurance business processes and products
Unique Requirements:
Overtime and flexible work hours may be required during peak reporting periods
This role requires Reliability Status Clearance. In addition to a law enforcement inquiry and a credit check, as part of your application, the Government of Canada will ask if you lived or travelled outside of Canada for 6-consecutive months during the last 5 years, and you must account for all activities during this time.
